The best kid-friendly wineries in Napa and Sonoma

“There’s lots of room for kids to run around at St. Helena’s Pestoni Family Estate Winery, which reopened in the spring of 2025 after a major remodel. While the jazzed-up indoor areas are for adults only, the outdoor pavilion is kid central on weekends. Big tables, lawn games like a giant Connect Four and the permission to bring your own picnic make it an ideal stop for a family. Staff members come to the tables periodically to take customers through a leisurely flight of wines. Kids love jumping into the vintage white Fiat parked near the pavilion. —E.M.”

Producer Spotlight: Pestoni Family Estate Winery

“The winery remains very much a family affair; Greg Pestoni is the general manager who does everything including “product creation, moving tables, sorting grapes, and sweeping floors.” His brother Andy was the winemaker from 1995 -2008 and then again from 2017 to 2023. Andy is currently retired from winemaking but is still a board member and is involved in major decision making. However, when Andy retired the family brought in consultant Aaron Pott who then recruited winemaker Jeremiah Moore. ”

Podcast 700 – Greg Pestoni, General Manager, Pestoni Family Estate Winery, Napa Valley

“When we say winemakers tell the best stories, we weren’t kidding! Greg Pestoni, General Manager of Pestoni Family Estate Winery does have some of the best stories. His family history goes way back and covers several areas in the Valley. After spending years in the film industry Greg came back to the family winery to continue the tradition of creating more great stories. I could have sat and listened to him all day.”

Savoring Napa: Where to Eat, Stay and Play on a Long Weekend Escape

“The tasting room recently and beautifully remodeled in the style of a green alpine lodge, this family owned kid & dog friendly winery has a special story and exquisite wines. The Pestoni family has been growing grapes in Napa Valley since the 1880’s, secretly throughout the prohibition, and then commercially until they finally opened as a winery in 1994. Retired Hollywood screenwriter Greg Pestoni came back to the family business in the late 2010’s, and has worked towards creating what it is today.”

Top Wineries In Napa Valley

“Although the Pestoni family has been growing grapes in Napa Valley since 1892, it took them until 1994 to open this winery and until 2025 to get serious about the tasting room. In June, the transformed Pestoni winery debuted a remodel that channels a luxurious alpine lodge with an outdoor tasting pavilion. On beautiful days, the lawn is where the action is: Visitors feast on picnics, play cornhole and sip wine in Adirondack chairs while kids run around (and, at times, fight over the giant Connect Four). Staff roam among the picnic tables, guiding each group through a succession of wines that might include a crisp Sauvignon Blanc, a floral Merlot and a spicy Sangiovese. After the tasting is over, you may be tempted to order a bottle to share, just to stick around a little longer.

One of Napa Valley’s oldest winemaking families debuts a major tasting room transformation

“It’s a story made for Hallmark Channel: Tired of the hustle in Hollywood, a screenwriter returns to his sleepy hometown, realizes the story of his career was right in front of him all along and decides to tell it through the revitalization of his family’s historic wine business.
